Absorbent, Ink. Organizes Benefit Concerts For Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters

August 4, 2008 Lawrence, Kan. – Absorbent, Ink. is proud to announce two benefit concerts to raise funds for Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. The first event will take place at McGraw’s in Hutchinson, Kansas, Friday, August 15th. The second will take place at Abe & Jake’s in Lawrence, Kansas, Saturday, September 13th.

“We’ve organized this event in Hutchinson the last two years,” said Lee Eldridge, president of Absorbent, Ink., a Kansas-based promotional products company. “I grew up in Hutchinson, and it’s been fun to go home and do something for the community. This year we’re doubling our efforts and will be organizing concerts for both Reno County and Douglas County offices of Big Brothers Big Sisters. The crowds have been great. The sponsors have been great. It’s fun for us. And generates money for a great cause. What could be better than helping kids in need.”

“We’re very excited to bring this event to Lawrence this year,” said Becky Price, Northeast Regional Director for Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. “This is such a tremendous opportunity to raise funds to help get kids off the waiting list. This event has been well received and generated several thousand dollars for the Reno Country office the last couple of years.”

Alpheus was a popular rock band based out of Hutchinson, Kan., in the early 1980s. Members from Alpheus went on to play music professionally in other bands including That Statue Moved, Broken Inglish, Penguins and Rif Raf. The band will be performing a variety of hits from the ’80s from such artists as the Cars, Rick Springfield, Blue Oyster Cult and the Romantics. Performing in Alpheus will be original members Scott DeVault, Lee Eldridge, Steve Guiot and Darren Keller. All were 1984 graduates from Buhler High School. Joining the band is long-time friend and musician Jeff Bruntzel.

“I hadn’t listened to ’80s music in years. It’s been fun to relearn all of this material,” said Eldridge. “But this year we’ve added a few surprises to the show. Let’ just say we’ve strayed from the ’80s just a bit.”

“It seems like I’ve known these guys forever,” continued Eldridge. “Steve, Scott and I met in second grade and are as close today as we’ve ever been. We met Darren in junior high. Jeff wasn’t part of the original group, but certainly is now a vital member of the band. Just don’t tell him he’s officially in the band yet. Don’t want him to think that he can start slacking.”

To help promote the event, the band has launched www.AlpheusReunion.com.

“We’re hoping to contact as many of our friends, fans and classmates as possible,” said Eldridge. “We’ve given the website a bit of a facelift this year. And the forum has become a daily destination for many old friends.”

“We work hard to put together a great show, but we wouldn’t be able to do this without a great group of sponsors,” said Eldridge. Sponsors include: Budweiser, Boulevard Brewing Company, Lowen Color Graphics, First Management, GCSAA, Boston Financial, The Hutchinson News, Local Burger, Packerware, The Lazer 105.9, MY93.1, First National Bank of Hutchinson, and Absorbent, Ink.
