Almost every refrigerator door in America has at least one or more magnets affixed to it. Custom magnets are excellent promotional tools for targeting customers or clients in an environment they feel comfortable in, their homes. Promotional magnets are inexpensive and highly durable. Refrigerator magnets are seen an average of 3-4 times a day.

With a custom magnet, your message, logo, and contact information are constantly displayed. Custom magnets are an effective way for banks, hardware stores, florists, day-care centers, dentists, doctors, hospitals, clinics, law offices, schools, restaurants and bars to promote their services.

Styles

There are many styles of custom magnets available for use both in and outside of the home. Some popular magnets are: car magnets, refrigerator magnets, save the date magnets, monster magnets, ribbon magnets, photo magnets, art magnets, business card magnets, wedding magnets, and calendar magnets.

Custom magnets can be tailored to reflect the image of the businesses they are promoting. For instance, one might use a heart magnet for a hospital, a dog bone for a veterinary clinic, or wrenches for a handy-man business.

A Brief History of Magnets

  • The Greek philosopher Thales was the first to discover the magnetic principle in the sixth century B.C.
  • Ancient Chinese literature described the magnet as the attractive power of the lodestone. The common name for the magnet was “Tzhu shih,” the loving stone. The stone consisted of magnetized bits of iron called magnetite. Seemingly acting against gravity, the magnet could pick up pieces of iron.
  • Through experimentation, people found that when a magnet was attached to thread, the magnet would turn with one end pointing north. From this, the idea of the compass was born.
  • In the 1700s, Ben Franklin and other scientists realized that magnetism and electricity had a connection, but it wasn’t until the 1820s that Hans Christian Oersted discovered the compass’ electric and magnetic functions.
