Promotional giveaways can become treasured memorabilia
Who doesn’t have a collection of promotional giveaways like coffee mugs from various local companies, a college or trade show?
Many businesses create promotional giveaway campaigns without thinking about the gift’s long-term uses. Promotional giveaways such as coffee mugs, pens and other items, however, can last for years. Some classic promotional giveaways may end up on eBay. This happened to items such as "The Brown Pen" by UPS which was auctioned for $4.95 and an antique Haines Food Service stein that sold for $8.50. EBay even has its own memorabilia on its site; the "First feedback star" mousepad was recently bidded for $6.50.
Customers often save promotional giveaways that are useful for many reasons. I've kept the coffee mugs and fleece jacket from one of my first internships and actually wish I had a coffee mug or something from my very first out-of-town, on-my-own internship as well! I've even kept a few things I don't really use because you never know when you'll need a "white elephant" gift.
Personalized promotional products are great for giveaway campaigns as well. Coffee mugs, stadium cups and other drinkware are useful and are giveaways that are likely to be kept for years. A personalized umbrella with a quirky logo can promote your company every time it rains. Stress balls and other toys are giveaways that can be used around the office. People will carry your message around for years if you put it on the right kind of duffel bag or briefcase.
Once you have a giveaway idea in mind, take a moment to think about the impression you would like to create after your campaign ends. You may put your business name on a pen, for instance, but do you want it to be a high-quality pen that people will use until the ink runs out? Some promotional giveaways may cost a lot up-front, but are well worth the cost if they are used long after they are given.
When a business is trying to generate publicity, it can be difficult to think beyond the daily issues that consume a business owner. Taking the time to plan a giveaway campaign carefully, whether it's a national or local giveaway campaign, can lead to results for years to come.
